Repairs and Replacements

Dentures are removable replacement teeth for adults and seniors who have lost some or all of their natural teeth, and at our Coral Springs office they are designed, fitted and adjusted by a prosthodontist. A prosthodontist is a dentist with three additional years of specialty training in replacing and restoring teeth. For you, that means the person who plans your denture is the same person who fits it, checks it and fine-tunes it at every visit.
Patients come to us for dentures for many different reasons. Some have lost teeth over the years to decay or gum disease and are tired of chewing on one side. Others have a few failing teeth that need to come out, and they want a plan in place before extraction day. Many are already wearing a denture that has loosened, cracked or never felt right, and they want it repaired or replaced. Each situation calls for a different approach, so we start by listening and examining before recommending anything.
Dr. Renan Buitrago leads every case personally. He earned dental degrees from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (2000) and New York University (2008), completed NYU's advanced program in prosthodontics and dental implants, and finished a three-year prosthodontics residency at New York Hospital Queens, affiliated with Cornell University. He is a recipient of the Gersten Award and has owned this practice on North University Drive since 2014.
We offer two main types of dentures, and the right choice depends on how many healthy teeth you still have. A complete denture replaces every tooth in the upper arch, the lower arch, or both. It suits patients who have already lost all of their teeth in an arch, or whose remaining teeth cannot be saved. A partial denture fills the gaps when some natural teeth remain. It attaches to those teeth, holding them in place so they do not drift into the empty spaces.
To compare them simply: a partial works alongside your own teeth, while a complete denture takes over the full job of chewing and supporting your lips and cheeks. Some patients start with a partial and later move to a complete denture as their needs change. For patients who want more stability, we also offer implant-supported dentures, which connect to dental implants rather than resting only on the gums.
Am I a good candidate for dentures?
Most adults who are missing several teeth or a full arch can be good candidates for dentures. The deciding factors are the health of your gums, the condition of any remaining teeth, and the shape of the bone that will support the denture.
During your exam, Dr. Buitrago looks at all three. If you have active gum disease, we may treat that first with scaling and root planing so your partial has a healthy foundation. If certain teeth need to come out, we handle both simple and surgical extractions here. When a case involves several steps, such as extractions, a bone graft or implants, he plans the full sequence in-house so you are not shuttled between offices.
How do I care for my dentures, and how long will they fit well?
With daily cleaning and regular checkups, dentures can serve you comfortably for years, though they do need periodic adjustment. Your gums and jawbone gradually change shape after teeth are lost, so a denture that fits well today may feel looser over time.
Good habits make a real difference:
- Brush your denture daily and rinse it after meals
- Keep it moist when you are not wearing it so it holds its shape
- Clean your gums and any natural teeth every day
- Visit us if you notice sore spots, looseness or a chipped tooth
Because we have an on-site dental lab, many adjustments, relines and repairs can be handled close to home without long waits. If your denture is aging or damaged, we can evaluate whether a repair or a new denture makes more sense.
Does insurance cover dentures, and what payment options do you offer?
Many dental plans include some coverage for dentures, and we accept all major PPO insurance plans. Our front office team will review your benefits with you and explain what to expect before treatment begins.
We also welcome self-pay patients. To help spread out the cost, we offer CareCredit, 0% and low-interest financing options, and accept all major credit cards. If you have questions about any of these, our team is glad to walk you through them.
