If you have a throbbing toothache, a cracked tooth, or a crown that just came loose, emergency dentistry is the care that gets you seen promptly to relieve pain and protect the tooth. At Advanced Dentistry of Coral Springs, we offer emergency dental appointments for teens, adults, and seniors. Dr. Renan Buitrago, DDS, treats patients from our office at 2232 N University Drive, Suite B, in Coral Springs.

Emergency dentistry is unplanned care for a problem that can't wait for a routine visit. Sometimes the problem is pain. Sometimes it is damage you can see or feel with your tongue. Either way, the first goals are the same: ease your discomfort, find the cause, and keep a small problem from becoming a larger one.

Our patients reach us with many kinds of urgent concerns. Common examples include:

  • A sudden or lingering toothache, especially one that keeps you up at night
  • A chipped, cracked, or broken tooth
  • A lost or loose filling or crown
  • A broken denture or partial
  • Swelling or tenderness in the gums or jaw
  • A tooth that has been knocked loose

Patients come to us from Coral Springs and nearby communities such as Parkland, Margate, Tamarac, and Coconut Creek. Many of them have dental work they rely on every day. When a crown, bridge, or denture fails without warning, it affects how you eat, speak, and feel. We give those situations the same attention as a painful tooth.

The most helpful step is to call as soon as you notice the problem. Describe what happened and where it hurts, and tell us if you see swelling. This helps us prepare for your visit. If a crown or a piece of tooth comes off, save it and bring it with you. If a denture breaks, bring every piece.

At your visit, Dr. Buitrago examines the area and takes any images needed to see what is happening below the surface. You will see him at every appointment, emergency or routine. He is a prosthodontist, a dentist with three additional years of specialty training in replacing and restoring teeth. That training is especially useful when an emergency involves broken teeth or failed dental work. Before any treatment begins, he explains what he found and walks you through your options. If dental visits make you anxious, ask us about oral sedation, which we offer to help some patients feel more relaxed.

What treatment might I need for a dental emergency?

The right treatment depends on the cause, and in many cases we can address the problem directly in our office. A cavity that has reached a sensitive area may need a dental filling. A tooth with infection or inflammation deep inside may need root canal therapy, which we provide for front teeth, premolars, and molars.

A tooth that is cracked or badly broken may need a crown to hold it together and protect it. When a tooth can't be saved, Dr. Buitrago performs both simple and surgical extractions. He can then discuss ways to replace it, such as a bridge, a partial denture, or a dental implant. Our on-site dental lab also lets us repair or replace existing dentures. Sometimes the first visit focuses on relief, and the final restoration is planned for a follow-up appointment.

How do I care for my tooth after emergency treatment?

Aftercare depends on what was done, and Dr. Buitrago will give you specific instructions before you leave. After a filling or bonding, you can usually return to normal routines soon. After a root canal, an extraction, or a temporary crown, you may need to chew on the other side and avoid very hard or sticky foods for a period of time.

Keep brushing and flossing gently, and follow any instructions you were given about medication. Call us if swelling increases, if pain gets worse instead of better, or if a temporary restoration comes loose. Follow-up visits matter. They let us check how the area is healing and complete any final restoration. Regular cleanings and exams with our hygienist can also help catch small problems before they turn into urgent ones.

How can I pay for emergency dental care?

We accept all major PPO insurance plans and welcome self-pay patients. When you call, our front office team can help you understand how your coverage may apply to the treatment you need.

For costs that aren't covered, we offer CareCredit, 0% and low-interest financing options, and all major credit cards. Dr. Buitrago reviews your treatment plan with you before work begins, so you know what to expect and can choose the approach that fits your needs.

If you are dealing with tooth pain, a broken tooth, or damaged dental work right now, please call our Coral Springs office. Our team will help you get the care you need and make you comfortable from the moment you walk in.
