Cosmetic dentistry improves the color, shape, size, and alignment of your teeth for teens, adults, and seniors who want a healthier-looking smile. A single chipped front tooth, a row of teeth darkened by years of coffee, or an older crown that no longer matches its neighbors can all be addressed with conservative, carefully planned treatment. At Advanced Dentistry of Coral Springs, Dr. Renan Buitrago plans and completes this work himself, and our on-site dental lab helps us fine-tune details like shade and shape.
Cosmetic dentistry covers several treatments, and the right choice depends on what bothers you about your smile. For stained or yellowed teeth, we offer in-office teeth whitening and take-home whitening. In-office whitening is completed in our chair. Take-home whitening lets you brighten gradually on your own schedule. For small chips, gaps, or uneven edges, composite bonding uses tooth-colored material shaped directly onto the tooth.
When teeth need more significant changes in shape, color, or proportion, porcelain veneers cover the front surfaces with thin, custom-made shells. Teeth that are weakened or heavily restored may be better served by crowns, which restore strength and appearance together. For crowding or spacing, Invisalign clear aligners can move teeth into better alignment. Many patients combine several of these in a smile makeover.
Patients come to us for cosmetic care for different reasons. Some of the most common situations include:
- Stains or discoloration that brushing and cleanings no longer remove
- Chipped, worn, or uneven front teeth
- Small gaps or minor crowding
- Older fillings, crowns, or bridges that look dated or mismatched
- Worn or broken-down teeth that need both repair and a better appearance
That last group is where Dr. Buitrago's background matters most. He is a prosthodontist, a dentist with three additional years of specialty training in replacing and restoring teeth. He earned dental degrees from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in 2000 and New York University in 2008. He completed NYU's advanced program in prosthodontics and dental implants, and then a three-year prosthodontics residency at New York Hospital Queens, affiliated with Cornell University. He is a recipient of the Gersten Award and has owned this Coral Springs practice since 2014.
Am I a good candidate for cosmetic dentistry?
Most people with healthy teeth and gums are good candidates, and the first step is an exam to confirm that. Cosmetic treatment works best on a stable foundation. If we find decay, a cracked tooth, or signs of gum disease, we treat those first. Because we provide fillings, root canal therapy, gum disease treatment, and scaling and root planing here, that groundwork can usually be handled in the same office.
During a cosmetic smile-design consultation, Dr. Buitrago listens to what you would like to change and explains which options fit your teeth. Whitening, for example, brightens natural enamel but does not change the color of existing crowns or fillings. That detail affects the order of treatment. If you feel anxious about dental visits, ask us about oral sedation. You will see the same doctor at every appointment, from planning through completion.
How do I care for my results, and how long do they last?
Results last longest with good home care and regular dental visits. Brushing, flossing, and keeping up with cleanings and exams with our dental hygienist help protect bonding, veneers, and crowns, along with the natural teeth around them.
How long results last varies with the treatment and your habits. Whitening fades gradually, especially with coffee, tea, red wine, or tobacco, and take-home trays can be used for touch-ups. Bonding and porcelain can chip if you bite on hard objects or grind your teeth, so we may suggest protective habits. At each checkup, we look at your cosmetic work and let you know if anything needs attention.
How can I pay for cosmetic dental treatment?
We offer several payment options, and our team reviews the cost with you before treatment begins. Coverage for cosmetic care varies by plan, and treatment that also restores function, such as a crown on a damaged tooth, may be handled differently than whitening. We accept all major PPO insurance plans, and our team will check your benefits and file claims for you. We also welcome self-pay patients.
To spread out the cost, we offer CareCredit, 0% and low-interest financing options, and all major credit cards. Once you know your options, you can choose a plan that fits your budget and pace, whether that means one treatment now or a phased smile makeover over time.
