Full mouth dental implants replace all of the teeth in the upper jaw, the lower jaw, or both, using implants placed in the bone to anchor a fixed or implant-supported set of new teeth. They are for adults and seniors who have lost most or all of their teeth, or whose remaining teeth can no longer be saved. A common example: a patient has worn a lower denture for years, it slips when they eat, and the few natural teeth left on top are failing. Another patient has had many crowns, root canals and fillings over the decades and now faces a mouth where nearly every tooth needs major work. In both cases, we look at the whole mouth together rather than one tooth at a time.
At Advanced Dentistry of Coral Springs, full mouth implant care is planned and restored by Dr. Renan Buitrago, DDS, a prosthodontist. A prosthodontist is a dentist with three additional years of specialty training in replacing and restoring teeth. Dr. Buitrago earned dental degrees from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in 2000 and New York University in 2008, completed NYU's advanced program in prosthodontics, and finished a three-year prosthodontics residency at New York Hospital Queens, affiliated with Cornell. He received the Gersten Award and has owned this practice at 2232 N University Drive, Suite B, since 2014.
Because ours is a solo practice, you see Dr. Buitrago at every visit. Your case is planned and restored in-house rather than sent out, and our on-site dental lab supports the restoration work. When other specialists are needed, Dr. Buitrago coordinates that planning so your care stays organized around one treatment plan.
Full mouth implants can take several forms, and the right one depends on your bone, your bite and your goals. Some patients do well with implant-supported dentures, which attach to implants for more stability than a conventional denture. Others are better suited to fixed implant-supported bridges or full arch options such as All-on-4, where a full set of teeth is anchored on a small number of implants and is not removed at home. For some patients, a Teeth In A Day approach may be considered, depending on what the exam shows.
We also offer the supporting care that full mouth treatment often requires, including simple and surgical extractions, bone grafting, gum disease treatment, and oral sedation for patients who feel anxious about dental visits. Having these services under one roof means fewer handoffs and a clearer path from planning to your final teeth.
Am I a good candidate for full mouth dental implants?
Many adults and seniors with missing, failing or heavily restored teeth are candidates, but the answer depends on a careful exam. Dr. Buitrago reviews your gum health, the amount of bone available, your bite, and your medical history before recommending any option.
Some factors that shape the plan include:
- How much bone remains in each jaw, and whether bone grafting may help
- Whether active gum disease needs treatment first
- Whether you currently wear a complete or partial denture
- Your health history and any medications you take
- Whether you prefer teeth that stay in place or a removable option
If implants are not the best fit, we will tell you plainly. We also provide conventional complete and partial dentures, and we repair or replace existing dentures, so you can compare choices honestly.
How do I care for full mouth implants, and what results can I expect?
Full mouth implants need daily cleaning at home and regular professional visits, much like natural teeth. Plaque can still build up around implants and the gums that support them, so brushing, cleaning under and around the restoration, and keeping your scheduled appointments all matter.
Our hygienists provide cleanings and periodontal maintenance, and Dr. Buitrago checks the fit and function of your restoration over time. Results vary from person to person, and they depend on your health, your home care and the type of restoration chosen. During your consultation, we will talk through what is realistic for your situation, including how your new teeth are expected to look, feel and function.
How can I pay for full mouth dental implants?
We accept all major PPO insurance plans and file claims as a specialist, and we also welcome self-pay patients. Coverage for implant treatment varies widely between plans, so our team can help you understand your benefits before treatment begins.
For costs not covered by insurance, we offer CareCredit, 0% and low-interest financing options, and all major credit cards. Full mouth treatment is a significant decision, and we want you to have a clear written plan and payment options in hand before you commit.
